and makes them feel humiliated and embarrassed. l was also dumfounded to
learn that a judge had a criminal who was convicted of theft wear a
sandwich board that declared: “ l AM A CONVICTED THIEF.” l think the
public punishment brings about no t only humiliation and mortification of
the criminal but also those of his family, his friends, and everyone that
is acquainted with him. l learned that the judge Poe insisted that having
somebody declare that he is a criminal in public is the best thing in that
it brings children to see pacing criminal as an example.
However, l
totally disagree with his agreement because l think it not only offends
criminals but also deteriorates reputation of their families and
communities. Thank you for pointing out the issue over shaming punishment
and l think this punishment is a matter that everyone has to think about
weather this would be a good idea or a bad idea.
Sincerely,
/>Diane Won

opinion, I strongly disagree with the ‘shaming punishment’ in a sense
that it reveals the identity of criminals & makes them feel humiliated &
embarrassed. I was also dumfounded to learn that a judge had a criminal,
who was convicted of theft, wear a sandwich board that declared: “ I AM
A CONVICTED THIEF.” I think the public punishment brings about not only
humiliation & mortification of the criminal, but also those of his/her
family, friends, & everyone that is acquainted with him/her. I learned
that the judge, Poe, insisted that having somebody declare that he is a
criminal in public is the best thing & that it brings children to see
